Description

Another school-assigment I did some weeks ago. This was a bigger project than the one-day paintings I've posted recently.

We were tasked to study Metamodernism and then create something we believed fit the criteria of said movement. Metamodernism is a relatively new term in the arts, music, architecture and litterature, according to some scholars, new things have emerged that cannot be labeled as postmodern anymore and have thus proposed  that we live in a metamodern or even a post-postmodern era.

You can read the manifesto here

This assigment proved to be a headache for me, for the entire class actually. I don't think that anyone fully understood the concept that is metamodernism, a lot of people seem to not. In the end I got sick from overthinking and decided to just go along with an idea that popped in my head from a hunt for inspiration. It didn't necessarely convey any sense of oscillation or self-aware naivety, but I created something.

I'm actually pretty happy with the concept, it came to me after reading about ego death on Wikipedia, something which may occur during a psychedelic experience (the ego death I mean, not reading about it. Shut up.).
The idea is that you are supposed to vaguely see your reflection in the copper plate (LSD blotter), hence the title of the artwork. The brush strokes aren't that bad either, but I'm still no painter.

I really enjoy how you reframed the image with the title and visa-versa. Genius.
